Location, Location, Location
Mausoleum Crypt Above Marilyn Monroe for Sale

I know very little about real estate. Matter of fact , I know that only three things matter when it comes to real estate. Location, location and location.  That's why I had to laugh when I saw this ad on eBay.

"Here is a once in a lifetime and into eternity opportunity to spend your eternal days directly above Marilyn Monroe. This crypt in the famous Westwood Cemetery in West Los Angeles currently occupied above Marilyn Monroe is being vacated so as to make room for a new resident. ‘Spending Eternity next to Marilyn Monroe is too sweet to pass up', recently quoted by Hugh Hefner, who has reserved her place in eternity next to her. The lucky bidder will be deeded a piece of real estate that he or she will make their last address. And below you will be Marilyn Monroe. In fact the person occupying the address right now is looking face down on her."

OK, so I wasn't lucky in life but I can be lucky in death?

A side benefit to all of this would be that in death you would have some famous neighbors. You see, in Westwood Cemetery there are some pretty famous people laid to rest. Celebrities such as Dean Martin, Donna Reed, George C. Scott, Franks Zappa, Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, Eddie Albert, Don Knotts, Roy Orbison, Truman Capote, Natalie Wood and Farrah Fawcett just to drop a few famous names, would be your neighbors for an eternity. Quite a neighborhood, eh?

It seems that the owner of the crypt that is located above Marilyn Monroe, Elsie Poncher, owns that one and the one next to it, thanks to a purchase by her late husband from legendary baseball player and former spouse of the starlet, Joe DiMaggio. Elsie had agreed that if the crypt were to sell (not any doubt about that one), that she would move her husband to the neighboring crypt reserved for her and she would be cremated at the time of her demise.

Mrs. Poncher decided that she wanted to give her home to her children debt free when she dies so she had to raise the $1.6 million balance left to pay on her mortgage on her Beverly Hills home. She told the Los Angeles Times, "I can't be more honest than that. I want to leave it free and clear for my kids."

So she sold the only thing that would raise that type of money. The resting place of her husband, directly above Marilyn Monroe.

Bidding started at a cool $500,000 and when it closed this past week, the winning bid was for $4,602,100.00. Yes, you read correct. Someone paid $4.6 million to have their remains lie above the remains of Marilyn Monroe.

I guess the only thing I know about real estate is true. It's all about location, location, location.
