Born in Madison, Wisconsin - reared in New York, Michigan, Alabama, and Tennessee - Mike Thomson spent twenty-nine years as a career member of the National Guard (combination of Army and Air and two years in the Marine Corps Reserve) serving in Wisconsin, Tennessee, Germany, Washington D.C., Alabama, and finally in Texas where he retired - but not for long... He started a second career in the trucking industry working in personnel, sales, and marketing.
Mike is a former faculty member of the I.G. Brown Air National Guard Training and Education Center.
Views:
- Although Mike was once active in the Republican Party - serving as county chairman, state committeeman, and Republican nominee in his district for State Representative, Mike is an independent in political philosophy - believing there is no perfect political party.
- Mike believes given the wrong set of circumstances - The United States could become a dictatorship dominated by the Right or the Left. Despite 9-11, Katrina, and numerous hurricanes in Florida - events that should pull the country together, Mike sees more division than ever.
- Mike believes people at or below the poverty line in this country have as much a right to be heard as those above that line. The Katrina disaster illustrates dramatically the unempowered status of the poor in the United States.
- Mike believes freedom of expression is our most valuable gift.
Most Troubling Quote:
With a record-setting 2 million people now locked up in American jails and prisons, the United States has overtaken Russia with a higher percentage of its citizens behind bars than any other country - The Baltimore Sun, June 1, 2003
